Chicago Special – Alinea, Giant

Places to Splurge

Alinea; 17.5

What You Should Know:

Whether you think a meal at Grant Achatz’ Alinea is closer to a dinner or a show, the experience will surely be mind blowing. His thought process is wildly incomparable to other chefs, which is an aspect of his cuisine that strongly reflects into his food.

What I Liked:

A single bite of hamachi is lightly cooked over an open fire on the table.

Translucent gel with the exact taste of a Reese’s cup is set over a clear bowl.

Chefs, one by one, meticulously plate a dessert to the rhythm of music at the center of the table.

Is It Worth It:

The Kitchen Table will set you back more than $500 per person, but then again, you’re paying for both a dinner and a one-of-a-kind performance, so maybe it is worth it.

Weeknight Worthy

Giant; 20.0

What You Should Know:

Simple, posh and exceptionally delicious food is what you are destined to find all across the menu at this restaurant in Logan Square. The homely feel of the restaurant accents the well-trained and diligent wait staff for a meal that will leave diners missing for a while.

What I Liked:

Lasagna is prepared with honor to Del Posto, but could it actually be better than the primary version.

Jonah crab salad proves to be a worthy accompaniment to waffle fries.

A simple biscuit gives a glimpse into perfection and the ultimate form of memorability.

Is It Worth It:

Everything on the menu tops out at under $20, which I would say is a good price for edible gold.
